Musical Friends,
Today we will honor a treasured American songwriter recently lost to COVID-19. Damn that virus, John Prine was too good to lose. This song is one of his most popular, first released in 1971. Widely cited as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation, Prine was known for humorous lyrics about love, life, and current events, as well as serious songs with social commentary and songs that recollect melancholy tales from his life. In 2020, he received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
This song has been recorded in numerous keys by John Prine and countless other artists. Here is a great rendition with Prine and Bonnie Raitt performing “Angel From Montgomery”:
Enjoy,
Stan
