BORN ON THE BAYOU

August 22, 2025      —–     Chart #312

Hello Music Friends,

Howdy, folks! We’re taking another stroll through Creedence Clearwater Revival territory this month because, let’s face it, you can never have too much CCR. We just dipped our toes into “Who’ll Stop the Rain” a couple of weeks ago, and now we’re heading straight into the swampy goodness of “Born on the Bayou.”

Now, here’s the kicker: “Born on the Bayou” is basically a masterclass in how to make magic with just about one chord. That’s right—John Fogerty practically turns a single E7 chord into a whole bayou universe. Who knew you could conjure up a swamp with just one chord and a whole lot of grit?

Recorded in late 1968 and released in January 1969 on the Bayou Country album, this track is a testament to the idea that sometimes less is more. Fogerty hadn’t even set foot in the bayou, but he managed to create a swamp-rock anthem that makes you feel like you’ve been knee-deep in the mud all your life. And he did it mostly with that trusty E7, proving you don’t need a thousand chords to spin a great yarn—just a bit of imagination and a whole lot of soul.

So if you’re ready to let your guitar growl and your voice take on a bit of that bayou drawl, “Born on the Bayou” is your jam. It’s a track that’s stood the test of time and still makes you want to stomp your boots, even if they’re covered in imaginary mud.

Keep Rockin’,

Stan Bradshaw
